Fighting for Me

Will you fight to restore faith?

Riley Clemmons makes a powerful proclamation of trust when she sings: “You will never stop fighting for me”. It’s sad to think how few of us really trust that God will never stop fighting for us. The reason? I think it’s us – we are the source of each other’s doubt. We love imperfectly and sometimes not at all. Riley starts the song by saying “I need a kind of love that outlasts the night.” Have you experienced this kind of love – a love that never gives up on you? Perhaps more importantly, have you ever thought of being this kind of love?

You will never stop fighting for me
When I can’t fight for myself
Every word is a promise You keep
Cause You love me like nobody else

Are you willing to fight and love when everyone else has given up? Is your every word an oath? This might seem like an extreme level of honesty and commitment, but our faith was always meant to move us.

The gospel unveils a continual revelation of God’s righteousness – a perfect righteousness given to us when we believe. And it moves us from receiving life through faith, to the power of living by faith.

The Passion Translation: Romans 1:17

God is perfect, our efforts don’t need to be. Living by faith is about revealing God, not ourselves. God wants everyone to know how passionately HE has been fighting for them since the beginning of time. As the song describes it: “This battle for my heart, You took on from the start.” Even more amazing is the fact that he chooses to reveal himself through us, just as imperfect as we are. In Paul’s words, he chooses to put this glorious treasure of salvation in jars of clay.

We are like common clay jars that carry this glorious treasure within, so that the extraordinary overflow of power will be seen as God’s, not ours.

The Passion Translation: 2 Corinthians 4:7

Another song that expresses this beautifully is Love Moved First by Casting Crowns. It is NEVER too late for someone to reach out to God, His grace knows no bounds. But how will they know if we don’t move?

When anybody else would’ve turned and left me at my worst – Love moved first

Only God can love each and every individual like nobody else – we are only imperfect jars of clay – but we hold the love that can outlast the night within us. We MUST share it, no matter the cost. God’s love exists independent of us, but if we are open to it, it chooses to move through us. God loves through his Spirit and through our combined, imperfect efforts. Are you willing to reach out and do your part? Will you fight?
